Intranet

By , About.com Guide

Definition: An intranet is an online application that allows a group, team or company to share documents, calendar scheduling, tasking, announcements, listing management, closing and settlement transaction management and more. Any member can access it from any internet computer in a secure environment.

Some brokerages also use an intranet to collaborate with their advertising vendors for ad review and approval. Another use is to provide a secure login for clients to view and download documents for their listing or transaction. Then throw in lockbox management, showing scheduling, and feedback management for the best real estate solution.
If considering an intranet service, be sure that you choose one that allows custom databases, as the basic intranet is usually very generic for any company. The real estate specific functions would be created and customized for the way you do business.

Pronunciation: in-trah-net
Also Known As: Extranet - This term is usually used to identify the same solution that is used by those outside a company.
