Go From Site Visitor to Phone Conversation With Click-to-Call
Get Past the Anonymity of the Web With a Click-to-Call Button

By James Kimmons, About.com

Google purchased a company called GrandCentral.com, and is offering a service that provides you with a local phone number that you can set up to ring to multiple numbers and other features. However, the feature we're interested in here is the Internet Click-to-Call button.

Once you have the free account at GrandCentral.com, you set up a web call button and paste the HTML code into your site at various locations. The site visitor may be looking at one of your listings, or they might be reading about your listing services. If they have a question, this is the best time to take them to a more personal level.

The click-to-call button prompts them to call you with questions. When they click on it, they are asked for their name and phone number. When they fill it in and click, they immediately get a call on their regular phone line, hear your phone ringing, and are connected directly to you on your office, home or cell phone.

This is still a Beta project with Google, and you can't immediately sign up. You must reserve a number, and you'll wait for their invitation. It's worth the wait, but if you can't, here are some more click to call options. Here's our Google Guide's review of GrandCentral's features.
