We've all been bombarded with the importance of links into our sites from other real estate related websites. They're important for sure, but don't forget your internal linking either. Internal linking is made up of links on your site from one place to another in the site itself.
Every site has buttons with links from their home page to other parts of he site, such as the IDX search page, or a page for local mortgage brokers and banks. We're all used to these buttons and using them to move around a web site. But there are other places you should use internal links for several reasons:
Guide your visitor with links: When you're giving your visitor information that mentions price appreciation in your market, help them to see it with a link in the text to any charts or recent sold price statistics elsewhere on the site.
Your blog can help your site: If you blog, you'll frequently be writing posts that relate to information you have on your site. Use a text link in the blog post to that supporting information.
The search engines like it: The Internet has grown so rapidly in large part due to the ability of users to find information quickly on any subject they desire. When you have large amounts of information all around your site, helping the visitor by getting them around with internal links is rewarded by the search engines.
Staying with our theme of thinking of our visitors first and search engines second is borne out here. If you have information on one page of your site that would be helpful to a visitor when they're reading on another page, place an internal text link to it. You'll help your visitor to get more information quickly, and you'll help yourself by making brownie points with the search engines.
