Marketing with RSS to Email

By James Kimmons, About.com

What do we mean by "RSS to Email?":
Simply, we mean delivery of content to an email inbox With an RSS feed from a web site or web log.
What's an RSS feed?:
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Almost all web logs and many Web sites produce a feed of new content out to the web. It's like a "press release." Most of these feeds are read by subscribers with news feed readers, but you can also have them output to email.
Avoid email formatting problems:
With many different email systems, file size limits and text-only settings, it's easy to lose the impact of a well-designed and graphic-rich email. RSS feeds can be set up to deliver a short text excerpt with a link to your beautiful online document.
RSS from your blog as your newsletter:
Once you've committed to blogging, you have all this great content that will work beautifully as an email newsletter. Properly set up, formatting will not be a problem, and your subscriber will see a nice presentation of your articles.
Shorten your drip email campaigns:
It may be easy to set up a drip email campaign for months to years in the future, but will those way-in-the-future emails be fresh and interesting? Using your latest blog posts for your newsletter solves this problem.
Get much more focused with multiple lists:
Using the methods in this article, you can set up multiple email subscriber lists based on their interests, buyer/seller, type of property, alerts, etc. Once you've created the lists, have a different blog and RSS feed for each. This is the ultimate real estate email newsletter. You're still only going to write the same content, it will just be focused on what interests your subscribers.
RSS, Blogging and Email Working Together:
Let's be clear - we're not talking about the future. This technology is here now, and it's being implemented by your competitors. Falling behind in this race can be fatal in your internet marketing efforts.

Canned content is NOT the answer! The development of a blog and posting to it regularly with interesting local information is a necessary component of your overall marketing plan. It's just the smart thing to do to leverage your blogging efforts into other pieces of the plan. By using your blog's RSS feed instead of long-term drip email, you're keeping your content fresh and informative. RSS to email will accomplish your goals.

Since it's suggested that you avoid placing your listing marketing in your general blog, it's logical to develop another blog for listing marketing and announcements. There will be a group of subscribers interested in this content. By breaking up your email list into areas of interest, you can serve up content very relevant to their interests via multiple blogs. The methods described in this article will allow you to do this easily and your ongoing workload will be low compared to the results you'll achieve.
