Sister Helps Agent to Breach Real Estate Ethics
Self-dealing is dangerous enough without outright deception.

The Sellers' Complaint

We listed our home for sale with a Realtor for six months. Our asking price was $450,000, which he suggested, for our newly-renovated, 2,500+ sq. ft. lakefront home.

We then moved to our summer cottage in North Carolina and trusted him to show our house. Toward the end of our listing, he called to tell us that he had interested buyers, a young couple who could pay no more than $380,000. Badly needing to sell so we could complete our retirement plans, we accepted the offer after hearing that it was the best offer since our home had been on the market.

A couple of weeks later, we were shocked to find out that the young couple consisted of the Realtor’s younger sister and her husband. Guess what? They did not end up buying it..the Realtor did. We felt cheated and also that he did not look out for our well being as his clients. I wonder if higher offers that did not go through before was because of his goal to personally purchase our home? We closed with him three months ago. To our astonishment, we discovered that he put the home back on the market for $620,000.00! I feel even more cheated and appalled that he took advantage of our situation while we were away.

Wasn't he supposed to be looking out for his clients? Please give me your thoughts and if there can be any legal action we can take.
