Go to local subdivisions and homeowner associations and offer exposure in your blog to them for their activity and meeting announcements. They should appreciate the exposure and ability to tell their members where to go to find out what's happening. There, you've picked up blog subscribers! The content they might provide could include:

Meeting schedules and agendas

Party, soccer, sporting and other outdoor event announcements

Utility, street and other maintenance announcements

There's really no limit to the types of information they might want to post about. You don't care, as it's all good locally-oriented text for the search engines and will generate regular readers for your blog. Don't be shy. Ask them. You'll be glad you did.
