How a Real Estate RSS Feed Works

Getting interesting new blog content to your subscribers automatically.

By , About.com Guide

RSS, Really Simple Syndication, is a standard that allows the syndication of news and commentary for subscription by anyone with a news feed reader on the internet.

Think of it as a magazine floating in the ether. Perhaps it's your blog, or a news feed from your local TV station. Anyone with a news reader or "feed reader" can subscribe to one of these "feeds" and get updated in their reader every time a new entry or post is made to the subscribed content. There are many free news readers out there. One highly popular one is the free version of NewsGator. I've tried several, and it is an excellent and easy to use reader.

Whether you do anything for real estate with RSS, it's still really nice to have a slave out there gathering news about topics you're interested in. It can be personal or business, cooking or real estate. You'll be able to have specific topic news in your reader as it's happening. All you have to do is, when you find a site or blog with interesting content, subscribe to their feed.

Now, how does this work with our Real Estate Blog? You'll automatically have a link on your blog for your readers to subscribe. If they do, they won't have to visit your blog to get your new content, as it will be displayed in their reader right after you post it. Whether you've heard of this or not, you need to know that your future buyers are already heavily into this technology and looking for this type of content and immediate news and information. They're even getting it delivered on their IPod!

Let your competition keep working with cumbersome and expensive newsletter mailings or email delivery of newsletters and email list maintenance. You might even continue with these activities, but begin this new technology for the clients that want it.
