Real Estate Blogging - Don't Display Your Listings

Really - See the Survey Results That Support Not Showing Listings

By , About.com Guide

OK, you've decided to get into real estate blogging, studied about it, chosen a platform, and you're ready to build that blog! Or, you're signing up for a template or other real estate website provider who allows you to customize your content, and have a blog. The first thing you want to do is set up your listings display page ... WRONG.

Though it may look good to your sellers, CREST, the Center for Real Estate and Social Technologies, released their second survey of real estate bloggers. The results clearly show that the real estate bloggers with the most successful lead generation do not display their listings on their sites. Why is this?

The Internet has changed a lot of the ways in which we interact with our clients, customers and prospects. The "hard sell" is just not appreciated on the web. And many view the intrusion of listings into your blog as a "sales pitch." Remember that your goal with a blog is to build readership and commentary based on your content. Pushing your latest listing to your readers only encourages them to unsubscribe and stop participating. Don't take my word for it, read the survey results.

This isn't a problem, as you will not get syndication of your listings from your blog site anyway. So, as I do, use another resource to post the listing, produce online and printable brochures, syndicate the listing to other sites, and show your seller. I like Realbird.com, and it's free.
