Google+ for Your Real Estate Business

If you're not there, get there ... but do it right.

By , About.com Guide

I, being the geek that I am, was on Google Plus the first day I could get an invite. Of course, you don't need an invitation now. If you have any Google service with a login, you can sign up at Google Plus here.

Since then I've written several articles about Google+ for real estate, and some of them are linked from this article to help you to see its evolution so far. If you're not on Google Plus for your real estate business yet, you should be, but don't just start a page or profile and not complete it.

1. The "What's Different" About Google+ is Circles

First, if you want to use Google+, you shouldn't just set up a profile and/or a page and just leave it and start subscribing to or communicating with people. If I get a notification that someone new has placed me in their Circles on Google Plus, and their profile has no photo (doesn't have to be your picture) or there are no posts there or nothing on their About page, I click that "Ignore" link and move along.

Take the time to write something about yourself and/or your business on the About page, upload some images, upload a great profile photo, and at least enter an "I'm here..." post to get the ball rolling. You'll get far more reciprocal Circling if you do that. I'm talking about just ten or fifteen minutes of your time to do it right. Read the article in the link to learn how to use Circles properly.

2. Google Plus for Real Estate Email Marketing

It's going to be a while before the masses adopt Google Plus, though I think that most will in time. However, you can add people to your Google+ Circles whether they are users or not. You simply add them with their email address.

There is a button to invite friends to Google+, and on the Circles page you can have Google Plus pull contacts from Gmail and other email accounts. They'll be added into your circles of choice with just an email address if they're not Google+ users. Then when you decide to share a post, photo, item or some news with specific Circles, you'll get an option check box to have it sent via email to those who only have an email address. More about Circles and people here.

3. Using Google+ for Real Estate Blogging

If you're not blogging for real estate, you should be. I know all of the reasons or excuses real estate professionals give, especially the time, bad writer, and don't know how reasons. However, if you aren't yet ready to blog with WordPress or another dedicated blogging platform, Google Plus could help you to get started in a way.

Google Plus is not set up to be a blog platform, but it can be used for much of the same type of activity, with limitations. Learn what those limitations are in the linked article, and how you can at least begin sharing information and putting yourself out there as a local real estate expert with Google+. 4. Google+ Business Pages are a Real Estate Necessity

I firmly believe that Google+ will be a far better generator of business for the real estate professional in the future than Facebook and Twitter combined. I could be wrong, but the way Google is tying in all of their other services is going to make Google Plus business pages a must-have for every real estate business.

Take the link to see how easy it is to set up a Google+ real estate business page, how to use it to drive traffic to your other blogs or websites, and how to use it to improve your other sites' SEO.
