Useless Real Estate Websites - But Oh So Pretty!

By , About.com Guide   June 14, 2009

Follow me on:

What do I consider a useless real estate website? It's really an easy criteria, in that I want my site to bring me business. I want commissions deposited in the bank that are directly attributable to my website. If a website doesn't do that for me, and do it consistently, it's useless and a waste of my time, efforts and money.

You can get all of the forum comments that prompted this post here. But, the gist of it can be boiled down into these two bullets, quotes from a popular real estate technology forum:

  • "I've been using a [Brand] website since 2004," followed by other comments at the link above, but introducing the KICKER below;
  • "I've also received a few good leads from it that have turned into sales."

Read the article at the link to get all of the details, but what jumps out is that a lot of people were saying a lot of nice things about a certain website provider that have absolutely no importance in the real world of real estate Internet marketing! And, it has nothing to do with the brand they were discussing. What is important is that there were comments from a half dozen Realtors, and the one about leads above was the only one that even mentioned actual income from the site as a factor.

And, excuse me, but my calendar says it's been 5+ years with the site, and only a FEW GOOD LEADS can be attributed to it? If my website performed that poorly, I would get out the door hangers and windshield flyers and hit the bricks.
