SEO - Just Take Off Your Hat (Black or White) and Write

Friday May 30, 2008
Jim Cronin over at the Tomato is back with more very pointed and useful advice about real estate blogging and search engine optimization. I've written frequently about SEO in blogging, and agree completely with Jim when it comes to just getting the basics down.

It's interesting how many concentrate on tactics to game the engines, when all you need to realize is that your interests are aligned perfectly with theirs. They want loyal users who don't defect to other search portals. They realize, from the meteoric rise of Google, that it's relevance that wins the day. Getting a searcher to the precise content they want with the fewest clicks is the goal. That's what you want as well. You want a searcher on real estate topics in your area to get to your site first.

So, the answer is really quite simple. Write...write...write...or hire someone to do it. The more content that is relevant to real estate topics in your area, the better. Of course, there are a few other basic techniques, mostly having to do with post titles and meta information. But, without the content about local real estate, it's a waste of effort. A properly conceived and implemented real estate blog can gain search engine prominence faster than any static web site. If you want to consider doing a community oriented real estate blog, I've got the first steps for setting it up on WordPress here.
