Tired of Hearing What You Should Do? - Here's How to Do It
In a RealtyTimes article entitled "Service-Oriented Marketing Offers Key to Real Estate Career," Bob Hunt reviews a book by Bill Fisher, Ph.D., entitled "You Are Not a House." The book is about marketing yourself in today's world of real estate.
Basically, the statement is that too many agents and brokers market themselves just like they do a home. They throw out their "features and benefits" as statements of their expertise, performance, experience, etc. The author says we should be doing "service oriented marketing," and then says "...and one of the principles of service-oriented marketing, that "Your marketing program is built on who you are;" but the marketing program must show people, not tell them." Showing people involves providing lots of free information about your market and real estate in a way that demonstrates your knowledge and expertise. This author likes newsletters, but does state that it is possible that blogs will take their place.
How To Do It:
You've likely heard these statements about demonstration of knowledge, and becoming the real estate expert in your area through blogging. The problem is in getting it going, keeping it moving, and providing content that works. I'm developing a detailed instructional series on setting up a community blog on a WordPress platform.
The first eight modules are complete at that link, and I hope I can now stay ahead of you if you decide to take the plunge. They contain detailed screen shots of the construction, design and management of a WordPress blog with a community oriented approach. And to make it even more effective, it's actually a real blog here at DemoTownRealEstate.com. Watch it grow and develop with the lessons.
If you go through the series, you'll find that you're perfectly capable of creating a single web presence on a WordPress blog platform that will:
- Be the only site you'll need, with all the normal site stuff plus the blog advantages.
- Do extremely well in the search engines.
- Develop community goodwill and networking opportunities in abundance.
- Get you plenty of free help in content creation.
- Develop a subscriber base that will grow quickly and support your business in the future.
- Become an automatic resource to produce email newsletters without your involvement.
